Teacher of the Year ~ Becky -- Sketches In Thyme ~ Challenge No. 1 !!

Hi everyone!!  Woo Hoo it's finally Thursday and that means today is the debut of Sketches in Thyme  ~ the new Scrapbook Sketch Challenge Blog with a new sketch every two weeks!!  Which should be plenty of time to get that layout done and uploaded so we can all ohhh and awww over it!!  Our first awesome sketch is from Scrapbook Sketches By Scrapiopath and is Sketch No. 34..
Wow just think of the possibilities you can do with this fabulous sketch.  My DD-I-L Angela's Mother received the Teacher of The Year Award from her Elementary School this year and Angela wanted to know if I would do a layout for her to give to her mother.... Well, of course I said "Yes"  and after seeing  this sketch I thought it would be perfect with the items I wanted to use..  So this is the layout I came up with:

As you can see I turned the sketch vertically...  And look at the yummy colors I used.  I definitely wanted to use the purple since that's the colors of the school..   And I think the turquoise is a perfect match, don't you??    I also had to add this poem that they handed out at the banquet, it reads:
The Bridge Builder
An Old man going a lone highway
Came at the evening cold and gray
To a chasm vast and deep and wide.

The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream had no fears for him
But he turned when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.

"Old man" said a fellow pilgrim near,
"You're wasting your time with building here.
You never again will pass this way
Your journey will end with the closing day;
You have crossed the chasm deep and wide;
Why build you this bridge at eventide?"

The builder lifted his old grey head
"Good Friend, in the way that I've come." he said,
"There follows after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way;
This stream that has been naught to me
To the fair-haired youth might a pitfall be,
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim.
Good friend, I am building the bridge for him."

Beautiful! And she's right, kindergarten isn't what it used to be...or teaching if that's what she meant! I'm a teacher-turned stay-at-home-mom and it's scary what is happening to our schools.
