Hi everyone, I hope you're having a wonderful Saturday, and you've got your Christmas Shopping done. So now you can maybe try something new!! This week it's my turn to share a tutorial with you over at
Sketches In Thyme Sassy Saturday Tips, Tricks and Tutorials and I hope you like what I came up with! :o)
About two years ago over on Split Coast Stampers they demonstrated how to make a background using paper napkins... I have used this numerous times since then and I just love it.. You can really personalize a scrapbook layout using this technique.. Just think of the possibilities ~ Birthday Party Napkin on a Birthday Layout --- Wedding Napkin on a Wedding Layout... The possibilities are endless!! You can also use this technique on cards!!
Here is a layout I did this week... using a bright "Fall" napkin.
I love the bright colors of the napkin but I really just wanted to use the border for this sweet layout I did of GS Colten... so you can easily layer paper over it. But be sure you place your paper in the right place the first time, because if you try to move it around you're going to tear the napkin... The photo was taken around Thanksgiving this year and Colten has an acorn in his hand and he is trying to show it to me.. He is such a sweetie!!
Here is another example using a pretty "Spring" napkin
I origanaly did this one back in May/2009, but I just added the ribbon and the flowers in the corner just because I thought it needed something else... You can see the original
here... This has been in an album sleeve for a 1 1/2 and as you can see it's just fine... This is sweet little GD Savannah at about 8 months old... and one of my earlier layouts!!
Now here are some cards that I've made using this same technique
Here is the Birthday card I made for GD Savannah on her 4th birthday, July, 2009.. Her theme that year was Tinkerbell and so I found these beautiful napkins that I thought looked like where a fairy would live, used it as my background and then added the chipboard Tinkerbell and other embellies... I loved the way it turned out and so did she!!! You can see more about this card,
here...
Here are a few "Fall/Thanksgiving" Cards I made
I really love the rich colors of this napkin and I think it went beautifully with the image and the cardstock colors I used.. This was made for Thanksgiving, 2008..
Another beautiful "Fall" napkin that I used for a Thanksgiving Card.. Noticed the embossed leaves...
And finally, this is my favorite card...
Here are my cute girls, Ellie Mae and Sweet pea, with their hats on wishing everyone a BIG OL "Happy Thanksgiving from Texas"!! I used the same napkin as above on the background and added the cute photo that we photoshopped the little hats on their heads... and sent them to all of our family, who, by the way, do not live in Texas, and they got a big kick out of 'em.....
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and seeing the different things you can create using it... Maybe not something you would want to do a lot of, but I think it definitely gives you a few more options to scrap that special layout, or make that special card...
If you do try it, please let me know, I would love to stop by and see it!!!
Have a great weekend!!!
Hugs!!
