Published November, 2010 in Scrapbook News & Review ~ Wanted ~ Sketches In Thyme No. 16

Hi everyone!  It's Thursday and I have something to share that is very special to me...  Today we have a new sketch challenge over at Sketches In Thyme and it's another fantastic layout from  Helen Croft at Scrap a Little Sketches

Tomorrow is my Dad's 81st Birthday and I wanted to make him something special..  Last week my husband was looking through our old photos and found this photo of my dad taken about 25 years ago when my mom and dad were on one of the many trail rides they used to go on...   This is my dad riding Bullet, which was my horse when I  lived at home...    I knew right away that this was the perfect photo for this sketch!!!  I have already mailed it hoping he will get it before tomorrow...  My mom asked me not to frame it because of the glass, so instead I put it in a heavy duty sleeve so that it can be tacked to a bulletin board...  I do hope he enjoys it!!

Here are a few close ups:

Here you can see some of my distressing, the lasso I used for my circle

Here you can see the recycled mesh which is part of a bow from a package that I sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist ~ Chocolate Covered Cherries.. You can also see the layer I cut with my Silhouette that is layered behind the photo... I also sprayed this with the Glimmer Mist...  The SU Chocolate Chip CS is torn with one of those rulers with the jagged edges..

Here we have a close up of the chipboard flourish which is popped up on pop dots to fit over the lasso rope..  You can also see some more of the misted netting..

And finally here is the Sizzix Die Cut "wood sign" which I distressed with Tim Holtz Vintage Distressing Ink and added alphabet stickers and brads.. this is also popped up for dimension....

Here are a few challenges this layout will qualify for:
A Spoon Full of Sugar ~ Anything Goes
Crafty Catz ~ Chocolate and Green
The ABC Challenge ~ D is for Distressing

Here is the scrappy list of things I used:
The Paper Company Double Sided Mulberry Chocolate/Tan
Scrapbookers Painted Page ~ Wanted ~ (2 pages) I cut the WANTED out and popped it up over the one printed on the page...
Recycled Fiber Mesh sprayed with
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist ~ Chocolate Covered Cherries
SU Chocolate Chip CS
Tim Holtz Distressing Ink ~ Vintage
Brads
Small Rope
Silhouette to cut the design behind the picture and love you.

Spring fever ~ Colten ~ Stuck On U Sketches

Happy Friday everyone!!!  I'm soooo excited because this is my first post as one of the new designers over at Stuck On U Sketches!!!  And boy do they know how to start us off right..   Why? you ask.. because our first sketch is a beautiful 2 pager ~ from Sketchy Thursdays,
and ~ just look at the photos you can use on this one.....  So for all of you who love to do 2 pagers and to use multiple photos this one's for you!!!  And for those of you who are a little hesitant, remember, you have 2 weeks to play, and that's plenty of time to make something wonderful...  Please dont' forget to upload all of your fabulous creations so we can all see them!!!

Here's my take on this week's sketch..
The photo's are of my little GS Colten and his daddy, and was taken March 28, 2010...  It seemed like this year stayed a little cooler than usual around springtime, and the grand kids were sooo wanting to play in their fort/sandbox/boat that their grandpa had built them...  This was really the first time this year that their mommy would let them go outside and play for any length of time...   Colten was having a blast!! His daddy would put him up on the slide and then let him slide down ~ and he would just laugh and laugh!!  While I was putting this layout together I kept trying to wipe the sand off of Colten's hood.....lol  You can see why below....

Okay moving on... Here are a few close ups ~ actually, here are the two pages individually...
This is the left side...

Here's the right side...
As you can see I did a lot of distressing on these two pages..  To me it just makes this one more boyish!!  The chipboard flourish on the bottom left and top right is from Dusty Attic...  I don't think I have a close up of it...

Here's a close up of the cute sun I cut out with the Silhouette SD... I think it's soo cute...  And of course here's a close up of Colten, and he's also toooo cute.....  There is one of my crumpled prima flowers, and you can also see the fun paper I got in my Swirlydoos kit this month... It's got butterflies, cocoons and worms all over it, and it worked out perfectly for this "little guy" page!!

I used the Silhouette SD to cut the word Spring out..  Here is a close up of more of my distressing...

This tree is from Webster's Pages and I inked it with SU Always Artichoke Ink.. You can also see one of the K&Company Butterflies here...

And finally this is a fun sticker I found and just look at the colors ~ they are perfect for this layout...  And another K&Company Butterfly..  I think I used 4 total...

Here are a few other challenges that this will qualify for:
A Spoon Full of Sugar ~ Fall Colors
Alphabet Challenge ~ U for Unused stash ~ I have had this graphic 45 paper for quite a while but just couldn't find the right photos to go with it...  I always buy 2 pieces of paper when I buy just in case I want to use the other side on the same layout... Good thing I did, it turned out perfect for this 2 pager..  The sticker (100% Boy) is also very old....

Here is my scrappy list!
Graphic 45 ~ Domestic Goddess Collection ~ Tea Time
Graphic 45 ~ Renaissance Faire Collection ~ Tudor Rose
SU Really Rust
SU Haiku Designer Series Paper7 gypsies paper (butterflies with cocoons and worms..) ~ from this months swirlydoos kit..
SU So Saffron ~ sun  ~ cut with
Silhouette SD and
sponged with SU So Saffron ink
Webster's Pages ~ Nature's Storybook ~ tree inked with
SU Always Artichoke ink
SU Basic Black CS ~ Spring which was also cut with
Silhouette SD

Thanks for dropping by and please check out the fabulous layouts from the other girls..  I guarantee you won't be disappointed..  We would also love for you to play along...  Remember you have 2 weeks to play and if you do, please upload it so we all can see....

Savannah - First Day of Kindergarten ~ The Pink Elephant Challenge No. 24

Hi everyone!!  It's Thursday and we have another Theme Challenge over at Ella's Pink Scrapbook...(AKA The Pink Elephant)..  And this weeks theme is "Back To School"...  This year little GD Savannah started Kindergarten... and my DIL sent me these photos of her first day...  Too cute.. and you can see that little GS Colten was not left out...
This was just an all around fun layout to do..  As most of you know, this is not my normal style, but this is definitely Savannah!!  And since this is her layout I figured I would play off of her personality and go all out using the bright colors, the chipboard embellies.. (which she loves to play with when she comes over).  I also add a few fun buttons and some bright pink ribbon...   This layout has BoBunny written all over it... or, should I say   ..stuck all over it...!!!  lol

Here are a few close ups:
As I said earlier the journaling is what my DIL sent to me by email along with the photos...   I journaled on BoBunny     , layered it on SU      and then popped it up with pop dots...

This has got so much 3-D going on here... This is the bottom right corner....

Here's another corner with a chipboard flourish.. (Top left)

And here's the last corner... (Top right)

And finally here is a close up of the buttons, which are also on BoBunny chipboard circles...

This layout qualifies for a few challenges, which are:
The Pink Elephant ~ Theme--Back to School
ABC Challenge ~ Distressing

Here is my scrappy list of things I used:
